For nearly four decades, the Coutances area of France has been host to the acclaimed Jazz Sous Les Pommiers (Jazz Under The Apple Trees) event each year. This week-long celebration is usually held during May's Feast of Ascension. This highly anticipated festival began in 1982 and continues to delight visitors with its spectacular array of jazz performances today.
Thierry Giard and Gérard Houssin first brought the festival to life, and over the years, it has grown into a roaring success. By 2010, 37,000 people had already attended; an estimated 1,000 concerts have taken place since its inception in 2006. To commemorate its 30th anniversary in 2011, musicians from previous festivals were invited back so that guests could enjoy their favorite performances once again. The week ended with an extraordinary parade through Coutances city center—truly a magical celebration!
