Since 1994, the Usedomer Musikfestival has taken off as a summertime event celebrating classical music. Kurt Masur served as its patron and established connections with the Young Concert Artists Foundation to provide award-winning musicians an opportunity to perform at Usedomer Musikfestival each year since 1995. With strong ties to local music schools in Wolgast and Świnoujście, young regional performers also have access to this platform to showcase their talent.
Since its inception, the Usedomer Musikfestival has used its coastal location to inform its program. Every season is dedicated to a different nation bordering the Baltic Sea. It showcases their musicians and music styles -an area teeming with talented composers, performers, and creators of all varieties. It's an opportunity to celebrate this common cultural space shared by various people across multiple nations, one that offers limitless possibilities of fascinating sounds worth discovering!
Every year, themes are designated for different countries in the Baltic Sea vicinity. These include Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, Poland, Finland (2005), Sweden (2006), Norway (2007), Denmark (2008), historical Prussia (2009), and more recently, Latvia (2010); Lithuania (2011), Russia(2012), Poland (2014) and Finland (2015) musical stations. Exhibitions and lectures related to each theme are available to visitors throughout that particular topic's focus.
The Usedomer Musikfestival is more than just classical music concerts; it also features Jazz, folk, avant-garde performances, and fine arts. The power of music stretches across cultures and periods, uniting traditional folklore with modern acoustic artistry. Thus the event goes beyond what a conventional show would offer -it's an experience that celebrates all genres!
