Each year in mid-July, Bánkitó Festival draws people from around the country to its shores on the stunningly picturesque Bánki Lake. This underground music and cultural festival is dedicated to fostering a sense of community, as indicated by its name, derived from this magnificent body of water that serves as the event’s epicenter.
Bánkitó Festival offers an expansive, open space for visitors to explore. Along the shore of the lake are various activities that range from live concerts and theatrical acts to NGO booths filled with exciting adventures. Music lovers will especially enjoy this festival as it hosts eight stages featuring a wide selection of Hungarian underground bands and international musicians across several genres. But beyond music, independent theatre performances, contemporary art displays, and engaging civic and cultural programs are also added into the three-day program!
Each year, the festival is centered around a relevant societal theme that transcends every aspect of the event, from its political and cultural facets to performances, artworks, and civic activities. The mission of this gathering is to showcase progressive contemporary culture with an aim to shape domestic artistic and cultural trends while creating an atmosphere open-minded towards social matters.
