For almost four decades, the Galway International Arts Festival has been bridging artists and audiences together with remarkable results: in 2016, there were an astonishing number of performances, talks, and exhibitions that occurred within fourteen days at 26 venues. This event is highly regarded, as it attracted a total of 200,000 attendees during that time! In a small kitchen, a group of fledgling and experienced artists huddled together with the dream of launching an international-caliber festival that would showcase Irish artwork to the world. And so they did! The Festival soon became famous for offering one-of-a-kind experiences to all who attended while simultaneously supporting Irish talent.
By boosting Galway's recognition as a cultural hub and tourist destination along the Wild Atlantic Way, the Festival has played an essential role in cementing Galway's presence on the map. Furthermore, this event has been fundamental to founding numerous recognized arts organizations within the city.
Galway International Arts Festival proudly offers top-tier programming in all art forms, from theatre to music, visual arts to opera, dance, and more.
