Oerol Festival is back for its latest edition in 2023, from June 9th to the 18th! With an incredible roster of performers and memorable music, one can be certain that these ten days will make for a remarkable experience. So don't miss out on this captivating show!
Every year, the Dutch island of Terschelling is alive with culture during Oerol Festival. For ten days each June, attendees are treated to various live theatre performances alongside music and visual arts spectacles. It all started back in 1982 when the inaugural festival took place. Since then, it has become an event that encourages artists and audience members alike to expand their horizons! Discovering new art forms by creating and contextualizing them is now as much a part of Oerol as its public performance pieces.
In the Terschelling dialect, Oerol means "everywhere" or, more literally, "overall," expressing its role in covering the entire land. This name is derived from an ancient tradition on the island where cattle were granted permission to roam freely and feast upon all of nature's bounty during a short period in early spring.
In 2023, the Oerol Festival will change to a single grand Festival Heart between the dunes and West aan Zee's beach at Paal 8. Here you can experience abundant live music and theatrical performances anytime during the day or night. Stroll from the dunes to the sea and explore even more entertainment, including stories told under beach tents, in panoramic dune views, and right by the waterfront!
