The Hemsing Festival is an extraordinary event that combines classical music and nature's beauty with an astonishing view of snow-covered Valdresfjell. During week 8 of winter break (Oslo/Akershus holiday), renowned international musicians from around the world come together to Aurdal for this delightful chamber music festival where one can create lifelong memories.
Every year, the Hemsing Festival is held in Aurdal - a tiny mountain village boasting 700 inhabitants and a deeply embedded cultural heritage in Valdres. It draws tourists from all over to bask in its majestic beauty that has inspired icons such as Edvard Grieg and Knut Hamsun alike. Frydenlund Skysstasjon also serves as an ideal gathering point for artists across Norway to meet on this festive occasion!
The great festival boasts 15 concerts for five days. At this extraordinary event, you can find performances in three different venues: The magnificent 1737 church as its centerpiece, Frikar-Smia with its modern stage setting, and Frydenlund Skysstasjon with its vintage ambiance. Also, trek up Aurdalsåsen's mountain church for an unforgettable combination of skiing amidst captivating scenery and unique music events!
The Hemsing Festival, with deep connections to the local community, has sought to foster a love of classical music among children and young people in the valley since its inception. Inviting students from area cultural schools to attend concerts creates an intimate and accessible atmosphere that encourages appreciation for this timeless art form.
In addition, the festival celebrates the village's delicious food heritage and its supportive local businesses. Most importantly, it is thankful for all the volunteers who have made this event such a success – without their hard work and dedication, none of these festivities would be possible!
