On the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra concertmaster's search to find a location where he could bring together friends and colleagues for an event rooted in friendships and beautiful music, he visited the town of Ullensvang in Hardanger, where the local cultural office warmly accepted him and his concept. From its inception, Hotel Ullensvang, located in Lofthus, served as the Hardanger Musikkfest's epicenter due to its unparalleled qualities and picturesque environment, making it ideal for attendees and performers alike.
Hardanger Musikkfest rapidly established itself as one of the nation's most esteemed festivals for classical chamber music and folk music, far exceeding its founder, Stig Nilsson's expectations. The festival has grown exponentially, with concerts held in all municipalities throughout Hardanger, boasting 30-40 performances during the event— an impressive feat! With a rich history behind it, this remarkable tradition continues to thrive each year.
From August 31st to September 3rd of 2023, Hardanger Musikkfest will host its annual event with the theme Grøde. During this enchanting four-day period amid gorgeous harvest-time scenery in Hardanger, you can immerse yourself in a plethora of music and activities amidst luscious fruit fields!
