In 2015, the Hartlepool Folk Festival began in the historic town of Hartlepool. The festival mainly featured churches and community venues that hosted sing-arounds and sessions in local pubs. In 2016, this event started a mutual relationship with the National Museum of the Royal Navy, which had recently taken over HMS Trincomalee's management. They chose to use the Town Hall Theatre, a 400-seat venue within walking distance, as the mainstage concert venue until it became too small after 2017. Hartlepool Folk Festival's current primary stage is now located at Borough Hall on the Headland with a 1,200-seat capacity, where concerts are still being presented today!
