Every year, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (or "Coachella") graces festival enthusiasts with its presence at Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen back in 1999 and curated by Goldenvoice (a subsidiary of AEG Presents), this event is a must-see for anyone who enjoys music or art!
The Coachella Festival's history can be traced back to the legendary Pearl Jam concert at Empire Polo Club in 1993. Inspired by the band's boycott of Ticketmaster-controlled venues, this performance ultimately proved that large events could be held onsite - leading directly to the first-ever Coachella Festivals, which took place over two days in October 1999.
After a year-long hiatus in 2000, Coachella revived with an annual one-day event held in April 2001. The following year marked their return to the two-day format it is now known for, and this came along with major changes like allowing campers onsite beginning in 2003. Over the years, more expansions have been made, making those three consecutive days of unforgettable music each April even better!
This event is a sonic and visual spectacle with some of the most talented musicians on stage across various genres, including rock, pop, indie, hip-hop, and electronic dance music. Not only will you enjoy live music performances but also mesmerizing art installations and sculptures that adorn the grounds.
Today, Coachella stands as one of America's – if not the globe's - largest, most celebrated, and profitably lucrative music festivals.
