THING is a three-day music and arts festival in Port Townsend, WA, that offers an intentionally chosen variety of performers with the goal of providing a welcoming and equitable representation. The event encompasses fresh discoveries while creating a safe space for everyone to participate and enjoy.
The name "THING" has its roots in the middle ages, where it referred to a "Ting," an assembly of free individuals aiming to resolve disputes and keep social order. This concept was the spark that started this incredible venture.
Musically, the THING Festival was a captivating experience with performers of both familiar and local varieties, offering something new for everyone. With four stages in total, including the McCurdy Pavilion and Wheeler Theatre outdoor venues, visitors had plenty to explore.
In addition to musical performances, the festival featured a wide array of activities like dance classes, lectures, comedy acts, yoga lessons, and even an art-making workshop. Plus, there was a breathtaking experiential architecture installation for all attendees to explore! The parade grounds by the ocean served as an idyllic backdrop for the event - plus those who opted into camping were offered spectacular views of the sea from atop a nearby hillside which served as a scenic campsite.
