The Poteet Strawberry Festival is a well-liked yearly celebration that draws thousands of visitors from San Antonio. Since its inception in 1948, the festival has grown to be one of the cities of Poteet's oldest traditions. This event is situated along The Artesian Belt Railroad, which connects San Antonio with towns in South Central Texas.
Since Henry and Ida Mumme planted their first strawberry garden in Poteet in 1920, the fame of local strawberries has grown exponentially. Back in the 1940s, when they began hosting a festival to celebrate this delicious fruit, an unbelievable 5,000 people showed up! Nowadays, each April's second weekend brings around 100,000 visitors from all over South Texas to enjoy what is now known as the 'Poteet Strawberry Festival.'
The Poteet Strawberry Festival is the perfect place for you and your family to have a great time! You can experience 14 areas of non-stop entertainment featuring Country, Tejano artists, and local bands. Many attractions, such as gunslingers, carnival rides, and rodeo performances, are provided during this event. There's something here everyone will love.
In addition to performances and entertainment, there is an abundance of delectable local berry-based fares. Farmers at the Poteet Strawberry Festival have ample opportunity to showcase and sell their locally grown crops through strategically placed vendor stalls on the festival grounds.
