In 1992, the Lake Charlegrark Country Music Marathon (LCCMM) was initiated by a small team of six compassionate individuals with the aim of raising funds for the Children's Hospital in Melbourne; their efforts were inspired by how much this hospital had assisted one local family. Today, more than 80 volunteers contribute over the weekend as gatekeepers, bar managers, cooks on BBQ duty, and stage and lighting assistants, all guided by a dedicated committee of 13.
For over a quarter of a century, LCCM has contributed more than $200,000 to the Edenhope Hospital and other community organizations. The LCCM team is also devoted to supporting the Lake Charlegrark foreshore and facilities. People from all backgrounds attend the Music Marathon that takes place on the 3rd weekend of February at Lake Charlegrark's shoreline: families with babies in arms, youngsters thrilled for an experience unlike any other, and senior citizens grateful for their time spent enjoying lovely tunes alike! The atmosphere is relaxed, easy-listening, and family-friendly—come one and come all!
The Lake Charlegrark Annual Country Music Marathon will go on for a total of 29 hours, starting at noon on Saturday until 1am Sunday and then continuing again from 10 am to 5.30 pm Monday - making sure you don't miss out! For those arriving earlier than the rest, there will be some exciting entertainment, such as casual sing-alongs and storytelling sessions in the old Camp Kitchen space. To put the cherry-on-top of your Friday night experience, fish and chips with all their flavorful goodness are available too!
