Founded in 2013 by Obi Asika, SMADE, and BBC 1 Xtra, Afro Nation Portugal is a vibrant three-day music festival brought to life annually by Live Nation, Event Horizon, and Smade Entertainment. Uniting the power of Memories of Tomorrow, this event stands out from its counterparts with its remarkable programming that honors African culture and history.

Designed to gather the most significant African musicians in an array of genres, including Afrobeats, Hip Hop, RnB, Dancehall, and Amapiano - this platform is revolutionizing the music industry. In 2019 it was nominated for Best Overseas Festival at the UK Festival Awards for its unparalleled success!

It was on 1 August 2019 that the global music festival Afro Nation—also known as Afro Nation Puerto Rico, U.S., Ghana, or Mexico—was born by its founders Obi Asika and SMADE. It started as a four-day celebration in Portimão, Portugal, until 17 July 2020, when it changed to a three-day event instead. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, this edition has been postponed till 1 July 2022.

On 13 December 2019, Afro Nation launched their mixtape compilation curated by MOVES Recordings and fittingly named -Afro Nation Vol. 1-. Including a variety of remarkable collaborative efforts from SMADE, Ice Prince, Slim Kofi, Lighter Tod, Joey B, Kuami Eugene, Medikal, Eddie Kadi, Bisa Kdei, Adekunle Gold Oxlade," Reekado Banks," Eugy," Br3nya " and Terry Apala; this album is undoubtedly an impressive display of talent!
