BASSINTHEGRASS is the premier music celebration in Australia's Northern Territory, bringing joy to its audiences since 2003. Brought to life by a project initiated by the Martin government, this event highlights local talent and international acts. The Northern Territory Major Events Company is responsible for its operation, part of the NT Government's special initiatives for residents and visitors alike.
Since its birth, BASSINTHEGRASS has seen an immense surge in popularity and thus imposed a limit on ticket numbers in 2007. At the same time, it gave life to its sister festival - Bassinthedust - which was held annually in Alice Springs between 2004-2008 before being put on indefinite hiatus.
Since its launch in 2003, BASSINTHEGRASS has become the longest and most prominent music festival in Australia's Top End. Following the government's pledge to host an all-inclusive, Big Day Out-style youth concert for Alice Springs and Darwin, this event was born. Subsequently, this inspired the inception of the Bassinthedust Festival -- held annually only in Alice Springs since 2004. An impressive 5,000 people attended the Darwin leg of the event and 1,500 in Alice Springs to enjoy watching headline acts such as 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, The Living End, and NoKTuRNL. This occasion became a yearly celebration in its own right!
Darwin's most renowned event sold out in 2019, 2021, and 2022, drawing thousands of music lovers from around Australia.
BASSINTHEGRASS is a renowned music festival located in an extraordinary beachside location with unparalleled line-ups and sunny summer weather. And not to mention that it got awarded as The Best Cultural and Arts or Music Event in the 2022 Australian Event Awards! It's no wonder BASSINTHEGRASS has become one of Australia's most beloved music festivals.
