Making its debut in 2019, Dweller Festival is a unique electronic music festival that spotlights black electronic artists. A year later, the team launched this corresponding blog which also communicates black perspectives. In 2023 from February 22nd-26th, Dweller Festival will celebrate its fourth edition of one epic five-day event.
Techno, house, footwork, and dubstep are all Black music. Dance music as a whole is deeply grounded in funk, soul, and disco, genres that African Americans created. But as club culture has become increasingly popular worldwide, many people have failed to recognize its roots or appreciate the importance of these musical forms in making it.
Dweller Festival serves an uplifting purpose: to amplify Black talent by providing supportive frameworks and contexts for their work. Through merchandise sales and individual contributions, this independent platform stands up against tokenism through the celebration of Black creativity in a safe space. Through the power of collaboration with like-minded individuals, Dweller Festival strives to make a lasting impact by amplifying Black voices!
