In 2003, two Newcastle neighbors with a shared passion for music struck up an idea whilst out having drinks: to create an incredible musical event that their local community could be involved in and enjoy. Aiming to provide fun, connection, and affordability, the plan was set into motion with support from numerous regional groups, allowing this dream of theirs to come true. On Saturday, the 24th of April, 2005, came the realization of Groovin the Moo's first year; 1,400 people descended on Gloucester Showgrounds in New South Wales to witness iconic acts like Screaming Jets and Killing Heidi alongside local Newcastle music. It was a remarkable moment seeing an idea come alive before your eyes!
In 2006, Groovin the Moo returned with a bang: taking to Maitland (NSW), Albury (NSW), and Darwin (NT) for its first-ever international act - Gomez from the UK. Not only that, but it also featured talented Aussie legends Hilltop Hoods, The Herd, and Faker, plus many more incredible acts! Its family kept expanding in 2009 to Bendigo (VIC). Fast forward one year later to 2010 in Bunbury (WA) and Canberra (ACT). With an unbeatable selection of bands on each weekend's bill every time, Groovin the Moo worked hard to ensure three memorable weekends of music and exhilaration.
