In 1968, the City of Helsinki created the modern form of the Helsinki Festival to broaden and build upon its predecessor, "Sibelius viikot" (Sibelius weeks). This classical music festival ran from 1951-1965 before transitioning into what is now known as The Helsinki Festival.
