For over 15 years, Movement Electronic Music Festival has been leading the way for electronic dance music lovers worldwide. Since 2006, this acclaimed festival has gathered thousands of people in Detroit - the birthplace of techno - every Memorial Day weekend to celebrate their shared passion and witness the newest musical trends from some of the best DJs on earth. Hart Plaza has been playing host to spectacular events for many years, from the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (2000-2002), Movement (2003-2004), and Fuse-In (2005). Continuing this grand tradition, the citizens of Detroit come together every year at Hart Plaza.
The four festivals, each emblematizing a distinct producer, brand, and route to electronic music culture, presented performances by musicians and DJs that embodied the progressive nature of Detroit's Techno genre. Every festival honored its roots in this prominent subgenre while celebrating its individualities.
In 2013, the original DEMF management revealed their intentions to bring back the Detroit Electronic Music Festival as a complimentary admission event at Campus Martius Park over the Independence Day weekend of 2014. They also planned for FEMT-a concurrent conference and musical showcase requiring paid access-to held at Ford Field. Unfortunately, these events were postponed until 2015 but had no affiliation with Movement Electronic Music Festival taking place near Memorial Day weekend at Hart Plaza.
In 2017, Movement was a finalist for Festival of the Year at the Electronic Music Awards - an incredible honor that showed how renowned and appreciated this event has become.
