In 1975, Stadtfest Oldenburg began humbly in the pedestrian zone with merely three stages and programs centered around youngsters. By the late 1970s, approximately one hundred thousand citizens of Oldenburg had attended the city festival. Fast forward to today: Stadtfest has expanded into almost twenty distinct stages that feature live music and give this event a unique energy!
While the city festival has undoubtedly reached its size limits, there have been significant advances since then: Organizationally, with better service and increased safety measures; through ecological concepts; improved bus connections and parking garages; and even introducing an official website in 2004. With all these improvements, you can be sure this year's edition will be more intensive than ever!
Recently, there has been an abundance of exciting new programs: from unique campaigns aimed at children to chill-out zones and a much more diverse variety of live music, including independent artists and young bands. The International cultural stage offers exciting participatory opportunities such as poster design competitions and street dance contests, all culminating in an open-air community service on the market square.
