Every year since 1970, the Vierdaagsefeesten has been celebrated in July during the International Four Day Marches Nijmegen. Formerly known as Zomerfeesten until 1998, it was renamed to encourage a more connected bond with tourists unfamiliar with this event. Despite that change, locals still refer to these festivities as "the summer parties."
