Established in 1997 by set designer Suzie Heger, Wellenklænge in Lunz am See is an annual music festival that combines jazz, classical, and contemporary music with visual arts. With the help of art in public spaces across Lunz am See, numerous projects have been realized as part of this festive event - such as the stunning floating stage.
During three weeks in July, the seating area installed along a sloped portion of the lake's northern shore and the floating stage come together to form part of the swimming area. By night, this same stepped sundeck transforms into an enchanting amphitheater for performances while preserving its natural beauty. The consensus among festival-goers is that there is something special about how modernity can exist so harmoniously within nature. This feeling contributes profoundly to the energy of the Wellenklaenge Festival.
It has been a tradition for globally known performers to gather with regional musicians in the months preceding the Wellenklaenge Festival to design the program subsequently presented at the opening event. What emerges from this process is always new and different. The only constant over the years has been the desire to fully exploit the possibilities of the lake stage and surrounding area, whether it is bringing the artists to the stage by boat, having trumpets play fanfare from the diving tower, or utilizing the echoes that resound across the lake from the Hetzkogel mountain.
Lunz is a vibrant hub where professional musicians and amateurs unite, and international stars compete with local talent. This has cemented the Festival's status in the area - hip-hop artists feel right at home on stage, just like American singer-songwriters Christian Muthspiel Trio, Tristan Schulze, and the brass ensemble of Munich Philharmonic. The awe-inspiring Wellenklaenge Festival boasts dance performances, breakdance acts, workshops, and readings to give an even more special touch!
Lunz's breathtakingly pristine waters are a calming haven, and its tranquil atmosphere makes it the perfect destination for small yet exciting festivals like the Wellenklaenge Festival.
