In 1940, the SantaCaliGon Days Festival was organized to commemorate Independence's spectacular past, the gateway to the Oregon, California, and Santa Fe Trails. After World War II in 1947, another festival followed suit. Unfortunately, however, it wasn't until 1973 that this particular event returned for subsequent years after that.

In the past, the festival was called Three Trails Days and consisted of a beard and mustache contest, a Miss Independence pageant, and a pioneer costume competition. By 1974 though, this event was christened "Santa-Cali-Gon Days," which had been coined by Velma Katschkowsky in 1940 after winning an official name for a festival contest. Fast forward to today - over half a century later - and SantaCaliGon is now one of America's premier festivals drawing in more than 300 thousand visitors yearly!

Xfinity proudly presents the 51st edition of the renowned SantaCaliGon Days Festival! Come to Independence Square for this four-day Labor Day Weekend event and enjoy various family-friendly activities. Celebrate one of the longest-running festivals in the region!

Prepare for a lovely weekend at one of the Midwest's most incredible arts and crafts events! With over 500 vendors to browse, exceptional food, and live entertainment on three stages, plus an exciting carnival for kids and adults - this event has something for everyone. And that's not even the best part: admission is free, so join in the fun!
